Gallery guide

The gallery is available for all community members to manage and share their collection of celebrity pictures – this could be your own scans, pictures you found on the internet etc. After uploading the pictures to Celebs Central you can easily share them with other members through our forums and post thumbnails that link to the pictures. This guide will walk you through all the stuff you need to know to use your member gallery.

Rules
Before I get started with the guide here’s the rules for what kind of pictures you are NOT allowed to upload to your gallery:

  • No low quality pictures – Let’s try and keep the picture quality as high as possible.
  • Any pictures containing porn or nudity, and other sorts of illegal content.
  • NEW RULE (as of Aug. 14th 2008): No celebrities under the age of 16 is allowed.
  • NEW RULE (as of Aug. 14th 2008): Moderators can delete pictures as they see fit. It is our site, we rule here :-)

Now there aren’t many rules, so I expect that we can all follow them!

The only file type allowed is JPG; all other file types will be deleted.

Where do I find the gallery?
First of all you need to be a registered member of our community. It shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes to register – you can register here.

If you aren’t logged in to your account do so now, and you’ll see a orange “Gallery” link in the community bar on the top of nearly every page. Click this link.

Uploading your first picture
To get started, let’s upload the first picture to your gallery. Hit the “Upload pictures” link and the first page out of three shows up. The first form contains three fields – Category, Celebrity and Pictures. I won’t get specific on these fields just yet, but just show you how to upload your first picture.

The first picture I uploaded to my gallery was of Christina Milian, and here’s how I did it (you can see the picture here). First I set the Category dropdown to “Pictures” since this is just a standard press photo. Next I set the Celebrity dropdown to “New celebrity” since Christina Milian didn’t have her own profile at the time I uploaded the picture. I only had a single picture, so I set the Pictures dropdown to “1”, and clicked continue.

The next page asks you for a Celebrity name and the file for Picture #1. I put “Christina Milian” in the first field and clicked the browse button to find the picture I wanted to upload. The only thing left is to click the upload button. Now the files will be uploaded to the server and added to your gallery. And you don’t have to worry about the thumbnail; this is created on the server. Depending on how big the file size of the picture is and your internet connection this stage might take a while.

When the upload is done the third and final page comes up. Here you’ll get a code which will look something like this: [upload]40[/upload]. The number in the middle of the upload-tag is your picture’s ID. This code can now be used to post the picture to our forum. You just have to paste the code to you message. I will explain how to post more than one picture later in this guide.

You’re done! You have successfully uploaded your first picture to your gallery. Now it’s time to get a little more specific on how to upload multiple pictures.

Uploading multiple pictures
Alright, so you’ve learned the basics of uploading pictures to your gallery. But before we get into uploading multiple pictures I’ll explain what the different categories are.

Category – Collages:
Collages are actually just a technique where you stick piece of paper, photos and other objects onto a surface. When we look at this the digital way it’s sticking more photos together. You can see an example of this here.

Category – Pictures:
This is just a standard photo – press photo, scan etc.

Category – Wallpapers:
Wallpapers are pictures in proportions that fit the desktop of your OS (Windows, Linux etc.).

Category – Multiple:
Let’s say you have 5 files you want to upload; 1 collage, 3 pictures and 1 wallpaper. Then you should select this category. This will allow you to select a category for each file on page two.

Next we have the celebrity dropdown. Here’s a long list of names – these are the celebrities already featured on Celebs Central. But there are a couple of other available options: Multiple, New celebrity, Unknown. If you have no clue who the person on the picture is you should go with unknown (yeah, I know you had that one figured out). If the person on the photo is a celebrity who isn’t available on the list of names choose new celebrity, and you can fill out the name on the next page. Like with the categories there’s also a multiple option. This actually does the same thing. If you have 5 pictures and each is of a different celebrity choose multiple – then you can fill out the celebrity name for each picture on page two.

The last dropdown is the number of pictures you want to upload. This has been set to a maximum of 10 pictures because it could take a long time to upload the pictures depending on the file size and available bandwidth.

When you’re done with page one, click continue, and the next page comes up. Depending on your selections on the first page there will be some extra fields you need to fill out. But all the information you need to fill the form on page two out is available above.

Posting pictures
We have covered how to upload pictures to your gallery and now it’s time to get into how you share your collection with the other members. We use our forum to share the pictures, and here’s how you do it.

First we need to find the right board to start a thread at. Let’s say you uploaded a wallpaper of Britney Spears you found on the internet, and want to share it. The board suited for this thread is “Web finds – Wallpapers”. Assuming you’re already logged in to your community account go to this board and click the “New thread” link.

Now we have to come up with the subject for your thread. Since your wallpaper is of Britney Spears and you have one available this could be “Britney Spears x1” just to let the other members know who is featured on the wallpaper and how many your post contains.

Next we have the message textbox, this is where you paste the code you were given when you uploaded your wallpaper (remember the upload-tag?). If you have forgotten everything about this upload tag it’s easy to create a new one. Open your gallery and find the wallpaper you want to post. Below the thumbnail you’ll find the picture’s ID. Let’s say the ID is 865 (a picture of Alexis Bledel from my gallery) – then your code would be [upload]865[/upload]. Here’s an example of what your message could look like if the wallpaper of Britney Spears had picture ID 865:

Hey all,
Check out this wallpaper of Britney Spears!
[upload]865[/upload]
Get the picture? Awesome!

But we’re not done yet, soon, but not yet. You can also post more pictures without adding 10 upload-tags. The way to do this is separating the picture IDs in the upload-tag with commas. Here’s an example: I have 9 pictures of Alexis Bledel in my gallery and they range from ID 860 – 868. If I wanted to post these 9 pictures in a thread I would simply use the tag [upload]860,861,862,863,864,865,866,867,868[/upload]. You can also go to other member galleries and add their pictures to your post – the picture ID is available just like in your own gallery.

That’s it, the guide is over! Have a great time on the forum, discussing and sharing pictures of your favourite celebrities.

Need help?
If you need any further help with the gallery and picture posting just ask on the boards. There will be other members available to help you out.
